Bindara station to Wentworth

A beautiful morning for a campfire breakfast at Bindara. After brekky we followed the track along the river bank trying to find some culturally significant trees, using Barb’s mud map. We didn’t have much luck but enjoyed the walk.

Cracking the eggs for our emu eye toast.
Lacey the dog with her stick enjoying the walk.
This section of the Darling that flows through Bindara is shallow & unhealthy- note the green colour.
Always on the job! Both stations have asked Ash to fix something when they hear he is a sparky.
Goodbye Bindara.

More rough roads on the way to Pooncarie passing through several stations & from Central Darling Shire into Unincorporated area (not incorporated in any shire). They don’t pay any council rates in this area but also don’t receive any services. We then passed into Wentworth shire.

The Great Anabranch of the Darling runs when the Darling reaches a height of 21 feet (dry at the moment). The Anabranch runs parallel to the Darling all the way to the Murray.

The old Yartla bridge.
The loaded bull mailbox.

We are still abiding by our motto of

“It’s Unaustralian to drive past a country pub”.

After leaving Pooncarie, the landscape quickly improved with some large areas of cultivation & crops recently harvested.

Acres & acres of citrus trees & grapevines irrigated from the Darling. Impressive roadside row of palms.

Arriving in the outskirts of Wentworth & we are amazed at the difference between one side of the road & the other. The Darling runs along the western side & it has been developed with beautiful homes backing onto the river & they have massive green lawns. The first green lawn we have seen in a while. But the other side is not developed & is still open arid country. Quite the contrast.

Wentworth is a very pretty town with roses flourishing everywhere.

Roses at the servo. 😍
They worship the Fergie here. There was even one in the bar of the Crown hotel we went to last night. They don’t call it the Fergie bar for nothing.

The last part of the Darling before it merges with the Murray.
The post office, a beautiful building.
