Inverness to Wick

Today we hit the road again heading into the Highlands following the NC500. The NC500 (North Coast 500) is the Route 66 of Scotland. It is very beautiful country, very green. As we follow the coast we are seeing lots of wind turbines off shore & some drilling platforms.

Our first stop was at Loch Ness.

No Nessy here.

Next up was Dunrobin Castle which is the historic home of the Earls & Dukes of Sutherland.

Now this is a castle!!
Note the plaque mentions points. That is the number of points on the antlers.
Such ornate cornices.
The gardens were spectacular
There was also a falconry display with Aggie the hawk.
And Robin the Peregrine Falcon. When these falcons are swooping for prey they have been clocked at 242mph (389km/h) making them the fastest animal to have ever inhabited Earth.
Some cute baby alpacas.

Next stop was the spectacular cliffs at Whaligoe steps.

If you zoom in you can see the wind turbines on the horizon. It was a bit hairy getting out to this point but worth it.
The track was very narrow. Can you see how it drops away on both sides?
Where’s Wally? He’s wandered off again!
315 steps down & I felt every one of them coming back up. 😧
Our little cottage for the night in Wick.
