Wick to Tongue

Och the Scotties are a hardy breed putting up with this challenging summer weather. Another day of biting wind, rain & wishing I had packed my beanie. 🥶❄️ But it hasn’t stopped us getting out into it & experiencing this great land. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Duncansby Head Lighthouse
Seagulls sheltering on the cliff face. Duncansby stacks in the background.
Duncansby Stacks.
I think these are Suffolk sheep with the long ears.
Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of mainland Scotland & the island of Great Britain.
We saw puffins flying here 😍
Puffins – they are much smaller than I imagined. They only come ashore for the breeding season which is April to August. Very lucky to see them as you would normally take a trip out to the islands to see them
I want to see one of these too.

Drove past the Dounreay nuclear site where decommissioning is in progress but still hundreds of cars in the carpark. A little confronting to see in the nearby village the local mechanic offers a radiation check. 😧

Prime real estate for the sheep.
Smithy House, our overnight accommodation in Tongue. A beautifully renovated 3 bedroom, 2 storey house right on the street but with amazing views out the back.
View of Castle Varrich from the living room. We enjoyed the view for 10 mins then decided to walk up there.
At the top of the castle.
Heading back down.

Another top day.
