Ullapool to Shieldaig

A beautiful day for a short hike, sun is shining & only a light breeze so no need to wrap my head in a scarf. It’s a great look on the cold, windy days.🤪

Looking down from the bridge.
Highland Stoneware pottery, beautiful but oh so expensive!
Hand made & painted
More narrow one lane roads that are 2 way.
Oh it’s tight! We are waiting in a “Passing Place” for them to come through.

So just to add in a bit more adventure we drove the Bealach na Ba which is the highest ascent road in the UK & of course it is a narrow one lane 2 way road. It does have lots of “Passing Places” to pull off & let oncoming vehicles through but not for the faint hearted with blind corners & very few safety barriers. 🫣

The start of the ascent. Crazy cyclists riding these mountains with their tents & then camping in the coldest, windiest spots. They must love self torture!
We made it to the top.
Not a road you want to drive in bad weather.
Back up big fella!
I love these animal road signs. So far we have seen 7 different animal signs including a 🐸 & 🦦 (otter) but I haven’t been quick enough to get a pic.
A calming ale before we complete the drive back around the coast.
Applecross pub.
Nice dinner at our Shieldaig hotel with a magnificent view.
Grilled local langoustines – their version of prawns but they’re actually a mini lobster (without the lobster price).
Shieldaig – view from the hotel.
