Donegal to Portrush

Top o the morning to you! It’s Tursday & on the radio they have a competition where you can win Tirty Tree Tousand Euro. ☺️ I love how the Irish completely ignore the “h” in “th”.

This morning we headed back out to see the Slieve League cliffs. We missed a turn & got a wee bit lost in the hills. So we thought we would ask this old fella ……

He’s got his tool. Is he off to hoe his potato patch??

He was a lovely old fella, you just had to ignore the dribbling & spitting. 🤭 He was also very deaf & didn’t pick up on the Aussie accent but instead asked if we were with the Maxwells up the road. But when he eventually understood we were Aussies, well we couldn’t shut him up! Eventually we got the directions to the cliffs & we were on our way.

Slieve League cliffs were beautiful, rain had stopped, sun was shining but it was very very windy!
The Giant’s table & chair.
Just a slight breeze, couldn’t keep a 🧢 on my head.
This was one of 80 towers built around the Irish coast as a defence against Napoleon’s invasion. This tower was No. 71.
71 & Eire (Gaelic for Irish) in white stones embedded in the hillside behind the tower.

This was for the World War 2 pilots so they knew they had crossed into neutral territory & could land if they wanted to. Ireland stayed neutral throughout the war.

A monument to a folklore about a young girl (pictured at the bottom) who was lost in the hills while herding the cattle.
It was like being back in Scotland again.
It is the end of lambing season now.

This is a hardy breed that can stay in the hills year round but the sheep dogs will be rounding them up soon for shearing. This is when they will be sorted out as to who owns which sheep as per the paint brand. The dogs haven’t quite figured out the brands yet. ☺️

Apparently Sarah Jessica Parker walks these hills as she & Matthew Broderick have a holiday home close by.

I think this is peat harvested & bagged.
A cute little Air BnB in a renovated shed.
