Portinscale

Another beautiful day here, which is unusual as The Lakes district receives the highest rainfall in all of England.

I bravely dug my shorts out of the suitcase, laced up the hiking boots & we jumped on the bus to go to Buttermere Lake which is 45mins away on the other side of the mountain range. As the roads are so narrow around here, they are trying to reduce the number of cars using them by offering a very cheap bus service which runs in a loop around the nearby lakes & villages & through the mountain pass. It was a very scenic drive & we appreciated the skills of the bus driver as he manoeuvred the bus around the tight bends & squeezed it through impossibly narrow sections of the road especially when oncoming cars wouldn’t back up.

Taken from the bus window as this car & the bus are both squeezing through a narrow section of the road. The car’s mirror did get a touch up. 🫣He really should have backed up.
The lake is surrounded by beautiful mountains. This is the start of our hike.
A lot of bracken around here.
Where is this lake???
Aaah there it is. 😍
So much moss on the trees.
The water is so clear coming straight off the mountains.
Lots of chocolate brown sheep here. 😍
No sand on this beach next to the lake. It might be slate as there is a slate mine on the other side of the mountain.
Hello beautiful! She’s a bit naughty being on the wrong side of the fence.
I’m very aware of those horns.
More Highland cows here than what we saw in the whole of Scotland.
Tree roots above the ground.
Don’t get tangled up in the wild rose bushes.
I’m a bit tired after walking around this pond.

Reluctantly tomorrow we will be leaving this little piece of paradise.
